Phoenix
Phoenix is a recent exploration of entropy and the life cycle of art. Several old prototypes from the Contact series were placed outside and left to deteriorate. After several months of weathering, the original pieces showed an stunning variety of lush decay.
For each piece in this series, I photograph the intricate structures left behind by the erosion, taking care to capture each image before further weathering fully erodes the original piece.
I am constantly intrigued by the organic, nature-made results from such simple actions and how it mirrors the original capture method of this series. This rebirth of discarded material has led me to ponder thoughts of the natural process of death and rebirth.
